Disney announced delays in several anticipated movies, including the “Avatar” series and now “Mulan”. This means that there won’t be any blockbuster movies this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The live-action movie was expected to premiere in late March but was postponed to August and now Disney has declared that the movie will be delayed again.
Disney does not want to be the first studio to release a major movie amidst a pandemic crisis where the number of viewers is uncertain.
On Thursday, a Walt Disney Studios spokesperson said in a statement,
Over the last few months, it’s become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis, and today that means pausing our release plans for “Mulan” as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world.
If the studio will push through the movie premiere, they will be taking up a huge risk on the sales while the movie will not reach its highest viewers’ potential. Thus, Disney delaying the release of the anticipated blockbuster movies is a step taken to prevent possible loss in sales.
